All of a sudden my terrible sunburn started itching unbearably! What do I do?

im going thru it right now. its absolutely unbearable, i had to leave work and everything. 50 mgs of benedryl and a cold shower, but mostly a little bit of time did the trick. good luck to anyone that reads this

Place a cloth soaked with white vinegar on the itchy places, or try a bath with baking soda.

try baby oil

put a wet cloth on it for about 30 minutes and put anti-itch cream everyday and the itch should be gone in about a few days because I had about 13 mosquitoes bite on me and I did this to make it go away and if the itch is like just a bump and you can not stop itching it then out a bandage on it so you can itch it but it wo not hurt it so it will heal hope this works!

Aloe is the best thing to use, which I see you've already tried. You kinda have to deal with it for the time being, I know that is not what you want to hear but it is the truth. It should not last too long. One time I got burnt so bad I sat in front of the fire place and still felt cold with the chills, trust me I know it sucks.

i have been using my usual body lotion as i always do the only difference is since my sunburn i ahve been applying like 10 times a day... the reason it is itching is cuz it is healing. so just keep it mosturized and it will be fine

If nothing else helps, maybe you should go to the dermatologist. I know that it may seem like it is a little overboard, but they may be able to recommend something better than any on-line users may be able to.

i would say that it it was a bad enough sunburn that it would itch badly as it starts to heal. keep putting aloe and other medication on it and i should stop soon

The itching is your skin cells rejuvenating themselves. Do not itch or scratch, go swimming if you can, stay out of the sun.

DUDE!!! i just had that problem earlier. just try and find something else to think about. mine just went away when i started concentrated on fixing something that was broken

take a cold bath it calms it down

Put a wet, cold towel on your itch. Make sure it is cold, the cold will numb the nerve endings that is causing the itch.

Itching, I am sure you know, means that your skin is well
on the way to healing. Just keep your skin moist, with
something like Noxema. Do not scratch your skin, but
you can try rubbing it.

concentrate on something. ignore it, if all that fails, just use pain. Your body naturaly focuses on the most pressing issue, so just cut your finger or something. it will dull the itching, but you finger will hurt. it just depends on what you prefer. a bit o pain, or intolerable iching

Totally normal after having a sunburn.

For a quick fix before u do yourself any permanent injury, place an ice cube on the burn & move it around. The shock of the cold will stop the itch dead. Be warned though, this only works as long as the skin remains cold.

Then go to the chemists & pick up any of the excellent aloe vera gel products. As close to 100% pure as u can get it. And just slather that on.pretend you're buttering toast, & u just LOVE butter. Replace as often as needed for itch relief. In the beginning this may be as much as once every 30 minutes. Your skin is itching so badly because ur damaged skin is so dry. You need to replace as much moisture as ur skin can take. This means drinking a lot of water as well. I suggest a 500 ml glass every hour.

Then, when ur skin has recovered somewhat by losing much of it is redness, or has begun to peel (in a couple of days) replace the aloe vera gel with vitamin A, D & E cream. All of these vitamins promote skin health. There r super-absorbent creams that contain all of them. The most important for skin repair is the Vitamin A, so if all u can find is a lotion with this, then use that, & take a Vitamin E supplement instead. I do not recommend anyone taking a Vitamin D supplement, as it is very easy to take toxic levels of this if u do not know what you're doing. Instead u could buy milk or juice that is fortified with Vitamin D, & drink that instead.

And from now on, do not ever go out in the sun this summer again without a high SPF sunscreen on. Your skin is going to be prone to easy damage for a long time. Give it a real chance to heal properly. Do u know that every burn at a young age promotes the chance of developing malignant skin cancer later in life?

Take a cold shower or bath
